The Morris Minor Cabriolet - Page 3

Morris Minor Cabriolet The electrical specification has been significantly updated. This includes such items as two-speed wipers, alternator systems, and column mounted trafficator and wiper switches. There is also full instrumentation, automatic reversing light, and distinctive grill-mounted halogen driving lights.

Autoclassics is a small business, and producing a new version of the classic Morris Minor has not been an easy task. The Cabriolet bodyshell assembly has been designed and developed in the tradition of an earlier age, in which the design was approached in the ' sketch it, then make it and see if it looks right' method. Sometimes it wasn't and it would mean having to start again!

The car incorporates all the mechanical and electrical developments from Autoclassics product range. These have proved over many years to be some of the best developments available for the Modified Minor.

The first Cabriolet from Autoclassics production run, Number 001, was displayed at the Bristol Classic Car Show, on stand 17A Ha11B on the 13th & 14th March 1993.

The car has been produced as a special commission for Amanda Hazlett who is an automotive engineer working for Nissan European Technology centre. Amanda helped with the original concept and we are indebted to her for her foresight and patience in supporting the two year development project for the car.

Thanks are due to Andy Jones for the many hours of skilled work in helping to bring the project to life and to Dave Rushton for his help in solving some of the more difficult development problems. Also, special thanks to Celia my wife for her unfailing support. Celia must also be congratulated for starting the new business venture, Classic Trim, which has produced the hand tooled upholstery for the Cabriolet.

002 and 003 are now being built and will incorporate further modifications and developments, some of which will be truly revolutionary for the Morris, and we can be sure that these enhancements will benefit the Morris world in general.
